Who’s legally responsible for damage to vehicle??!!?

My car was in dearlership possesion for warranty repairs and while parked on their lot was hit. They say another customer did it and their insurance should cover(they don’t know which customer) They say they arent responsible. Plus I don’t want the dents covered up by auto putty; I want the door replaced!! Am I unreasonable and can the dearlership legally end up not being responsible at all?

i use to work at a dealership for years and also have been in the auto business for years. the dealership usually has you sign a repair order stating they’re not responsible for damages or lost or stolen items but it doesn’t hold up. i recommend you talk to a manager,general manager,or even an owner that may be the only way you will get it taken care of. you definitely have to put your foot down and may have to be a little bit of an a-hole to get it covered in some places but they usually roll over and take care of you. make sure you write everything down and keep good notes as to who you talk to when and what they said this should help. as far as a new door…good luck if its repairable they will most likely repair it just like your insurance co or someone elses ins would do if you were in an accident unless its beyond repair.
