Would a Volkswagen Golf be a good first car?

My driving lesson is very soon and I am thinking about treating myself to my first car. I really love Volkswagen’s especially the Golf GTI. Obviously I can’t afford a new one but it’d be satisfied with an older one, M-reg or something. I don’t know much about cars at all and i was wondering how much this may set me back, and insurance as I’m only 17. Thank you

I like the GTI. Insurance will probably cost a lot though.

My Dad has a Mini and he claims it’s the most “fun to drive” car he has ever owned. I’ve never driven it.

Classic Car Insurance?

im 30yrs old and i only passed my test on monday and was planning on buying a 1991 golf gti which is classed as a classic car, but lookin at a few i need to be driving for at least 3 years, is this right
