What should I do now that I received an illegal u-turn violation in TX when all my stuff is tied to CA?
I have recently moved to TX from CA. My car, driver’s license, and insurance is all tied to California right now.
So I’m curious about the following things:
- What effect will getting a point in TX for this moving violation have on me?
- What will happen with my insurance (AAA)?
- Can I take a defensive driving course to wipe the point off the record even though I have a CA driver’s license?
in the old days it would only affect you if you got caught or tried to move to texas and apply for a tx Drivers liscence. but now all the dmv are on the same system and a ticket in texas will show up on your California DMV report.
the easiest thing to do is pay the fine in the mail. consider it a $125 lesson.
if you want to get the offense and liscense points reduced. when you recieve the lawyer letters you can pay one of them about $250- 300 to go to court for you. my GF did this for a speeding ticket she got ina county 4 hours away from here. and she got it reduced to improper equipment and it did not go on her driving record. this will also prevent you insurance from going up. a driving offense always raises insurance.
Advice for local tickets…. you are going to have to pay the $100 + court costs and the fine anyway… if you go to your court date and talk to the magistrate they will work with you and if possible reduce the offense ( as long as its minor)
