Is buying an auto insurance online a good idea?

I just bought a car last week (new). I’ve been getting online quotes from various insurance companies. Some local ones are way out of my budget (some ranging around $2000 for a 6 month policy). I’ve found one I’m interested in but the location is all the way in San Diego, Ca while I’m up in Berkeley, Ca. That means I need a plane ticket to personally speak w/ an agent. I’m not into the phone calls, it seems the prices increases.

If you know what you’re doing, it’s fine.

But most of the time, when you buy online, the price changes – most of those places just harvest your personal information to sell to agents, as leads.

They aren’t “rates”, they are “indications”. Then when you go to actually BUY the policy, it changes after tehy do your credit check.

Progressive is a great company. You can call the 800 number, talk to them directly, and do everything online or by mail. Keep in mind, most people unhappy with claims, are unhappy because they did do it yourself insurance, and didn’t understand what they bought.

Oh, you CAN find a Progressive agent near you, using the agent locator button on their web page. You can walk in, and get coverage bound immediately.

My question is would it be a problem to obtain car insurance without having a bank account,

You won’t be able to buy online that way, but you’d be able to pay at a local agent’s office.

Keep in mind, with trashed credit, many companies flat out won’t want to take you, so allow plenty of time to shop around.

Funny, but there is no such thing as an “international drivers license”. They simply do not exist. A lot of scam sites onthe internet sell these bogus things to unsuspecting people, but they are not real for any purpose and the whole international drivers license thing is a scam.

The Federal Trade Commission in the US has information on its web site regarding these phony documents. In short, your wife was drving without a license.

Does anyone out there have specific knowledge of how police-used lasers work to check speed?

I am going to court soon for a traffic ticket, and a kind lawyer who is doing me the favor of defending me needs more info on how lasers function to check speed. He knows how radars work, but is not familiar with lasers. He has asked that I do my part by looking into how they function. I am busy helping my parents, specifically my mother with her super expensive cancer treatments, & not able to work all that much myself, so I am looking for the assistance of other kindhearted individuals to help me avoid getting fined & points placed on my license, which would increase my car insurance premiums. I have a friend who was a police officer for the same university where I received the ticket, but he has not responded to my question yet, so I am at a loss. Sorry to say it, but you’re not gunna be able to squeeze by this one. Lasers are even more accurate than radar, because instead of using the dopper shift method, they simply measure the round trip time, and divide it by two to get your distance. This only takes a few microseconds, so in only a second, the gun has measured your change in position some 3,000 times, making it even more accurate than a radar gun. The laser is also car specific. Radar has a wider “cone”, and so passing cars may sometimes throw off readings, but a laser has a cone of only inches, so if they pointed the radar at you and got a reading, it is beyond a reasonable doubt that that is your speed. The only thing you can really do now is hope the officer doesn’t show up to court, or ball like a baby till they give you community service…
