Once you’re an adult already, can you Become Sufficiently smart with some adult topics just by Reading?
I’m 28 and i dont know about m any things that other Americans my age knkow about. Like taxes, home loans, loans, insurance…also Cars, laws, Elections,
I dont know why but as a shy guy all of my life, those kind of topics dont sink in no matter how much i hear about them or even if i deal with them. My vocab is limited in talking, so it’s also limited in reading. So i have trouble understanding this kind of topics if i were to hear it from someone or read about it.
I’m faling in life because of this.. AND as i’ve said taking classes doesn’t help.. cause usually in colleges INstructors speak as if they were talking to normal adults. I’m not normal. i’m slow and i can’t understand things fast.
So what else to do? Can i learn sufficient stuff from reading it and using a dictionary. Sometimes i even have trouble understanding what the dictionary says
Where I live there are books and even news programs that are made to be easy to understand. They explain things as clearly as possible without complicating things and they use words that are easier to understand. I don’t know about such things in America, but I don’t think that America will be an exception. You could ask at the library if they have such books or newspapers.
I think the first thought was to make everyday issues (such as taxes, loans, laws) clear to immigrants that was still learning the language, but they later realized that it was helpful for people with learning disabilities.
You can learn a lot from reading by your own and using the dictionary. You can also become better at understanding what you read if you work on it as a fun project and let go of the worries. You could also use the internet to look up pages on the topic that you are interested in, it’s easier to learn if there are pictures or something else that is easy to remember.
