Price comparison sites for car insurance are a total waste of time.. ..what do you think?

I recently trawled all of the most popular price comparison sites and found that the information they had was just a waste of time. The car insurance quotes on the sites where all very cheap but when you call the companies they say; ‘Sorry the price quoted on our site is out of date, no longer covers cars in my area’, etc. Then they hit you with the price that they really want to charge you, which is nothing like the figure first quoted. Its just a con to get you to call the companies up. You would save time just calling the companies directly. And to add insult to injury, you get bombarded with emails from god knows who, offering quotes. USE THE PHONE, SAVE THE HASSLE.

why do we need it?

car insurance is a legal requirement (I’m assuming your in the UK)
insurance is there to cover you against any liability you as a driver may come across and there are different levels you can pick from:

third party only:this cover only pays out for damages you cause to other vehicles,objects,or people,so if you damage your car you pay for your own repairs

third party fire and theft:
same as third party only but you will also be able to make a claim in the event of fire or theft(of or from the car)

comprehensive:this cover allows you to also claim for damage that you caused to your car being your fault or not

if you dont have any insurance you will get points on your licence and be liable for the damages out of your own pocket. the idea of insurance is in the event of an accident you are not at a financial loss for example if your car is written off you will be paid enough money so you could go and buy a replacement of that exact car again

a insurance quote is a figure that the insurance company would want you to pay for the insurance to be with them. you can have as many quotes as you like and many companies will give you better prices than others but you have to make sure you get what you need and not just go for the cheepest policy.
