What do you need to pass Safety for car insurance.?

I recently bought a 92 Dodge Dakota off a friend for a couple hundred bucks. Its in good condition except for a minor crack bottom left of the windshield. My parents say its doomed and won’t pass at all. What do i need to pass a Safety inspection? So i can get it on the road ASAP Thank you.

If they are a strict shop they will look for headlights, taillights, turn signals (not marker lamps), horn, any leaks, lug nuts, brake fluid, mirrors, line of sight obstructions (including windshield cracks), major movement in the wheels when lifted, under carriage (suspension/ gas tank rusting), bumpers, brake response, catalytic converter, exhaust to go past the cab, and windshield wipers. probably more but from what i can remember that is what my friend that was going to cut me some slack looked for……..

however most will pass any road worthy car that isnt going to break down on a cloudless warm sunny day doing 30 mph and kill 3 people. a minor crack that is not blocking sight of the road will probably pass, a spider web crack is less likely etc.

Car Insurance Covers Against Car Flooding

Drivers with car insurance whose cars have been flooded may be covered for more than they think. The Better Business Bureau and Insurance Information Institute recommend that all car owners read their car insurance policy closely or they will miss out on reimbursements or other benefits they are entitled to when disaster strikes.

“Drivers spend a lot of money on auto insurance, but too often they wait until they need to make a claim after an accident or emergency and don’t remember what their policy will cover,” said Steve J. Bernas, president & CEO of The Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois. “After a widespread emergency such as a flood, when many people are making claims simultaneously, it’s important for car owners to ask the representative handling their claim about their coverage and deductible, as well as any options that are included, so they get their money’s worth.”

According to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.), a non-profit organization, comprehensive coverage will reimburse drivers for loss due to damage caused by something other than a collision with another car or object, such as fire, falling objects, catastrophic storms, vandalism, or contact with animals such as birds or deer. This includes flooding.

“Although many states do not require that you purchase comprehensive coverage, if you have a car loan, your lender may have required you carry it until your loan is paid off,” said Carolyn Gorman, vice president of the I.I.I. “Comprehensive insurance is usually sold with a $100 to $300 deductible.”

Many drivers also have coverage for a replacement rental car, although they may not realize it because this optional coverage was added at such a minimal expense, usually just a couple of dollars a month. This coverage provides immediate access to a replacement rental car until repairs are made to their flooded car or they are authorized by their insurance company to purchase a new car.

Drivers whose cars are totaled may not have to continue making payments on the balance they owe on the car if their auto insurance included gap coverage. This coverage pays the difference between the amount the insurer pays for the totaled car and the amount the insured owes on their lease or loan. Without this coverage, drivers are responsible for paying the remainder of their lease or loan even when their car is totaled.

The best advice is to be prepared to know what your auto insurance covers and what you should do if your car sustained damages in the flood by following these tips:

Report damage as soon as possible. If your car is not drivable, your agent or claims center may be able to save you time and money by having the car towed directly to the repair facility instead of to a temporary storage facility. In addition, arrangements may be made immediately to provide you with a replacement rental car, if your policy includes this coverage.

Know what your deductible is and any other additional charges before authorizing work. Expect your insurance adjuster, claims representative or repair facility appraiser to review the damage with you and explain the repair process, including the use of original or generic auto parts. Before authorizing repairs, know what your deductible is, as well as any additional charges you will be expected to pay once repairs are complete.

Ask about warranties on repairs. Ask whether your insurer has a repair facility referral program that offers a written limited or lifetime repair warranty backed both by the repairer and insurer for as long as you own your vehicle.

Do business only with a reputable company. Obtain insurance from companies, independent brokers or direct marketers that have a proven track record of handling auto insurance claims effectively. Get a referral, or contact BBB or your State Department of Insurance.

He said he saw me driving earlier in the day. My sister admitted that she was the one driving. Unless you’ve known us for years you cannot tell us apart. I was not driving and the car is not in my name yet I was fond guilty for both. I’m confused.

I think you answered your own question – yes it can happen if it happened to you. As far as what you can do about it, get a lawyer – they know all the ins and outs of the legal system and it is their job to create reasonable doubt. I’m sure they could find a way to arrange for the cop to identify you in a line-up with your sister.

Unless you have not given us all the particulars of the case, I’m fairly certain the officer cannot cite you for something that happened hours earlier, especially when he did not stop you at that time. Again, consult a lawyer, and if you haven’t already done so, contact his superiors and tell them that he gave you the citation based upon assumption (that you were the person he saw driving – he did not stop “you” at the time he saw it nor was he aware that your license was revoked). I briefly studied constitutional law as part of my degree program and I’m 98% sure there is something about that which violates the fourth amendment, but I can’t put my finger on it. Definitely consult a lawyer.

Your car insurance has nothing to do with it. Your home owners or renters insurance will cover it. If there is a deductible or you have no insurance you are responsible for the amount. The other party can contact their insurance company but if the insurance company believes it was your son’s fault they will come after you for payment.

Do not admit any liability. Let the insurance companies handle it.

my mother’s car is in both our names, i’m making payments,she has insurance in her name. am i liable?

i bought and am making payments on a car for my mother. both our names are on the title. she has car insurance in her name. am i liable if she has a wreak. can whoever she hits sue me? we live in south texas, we travel in this car some to oklahoma.

first of all, if your name is on the title, BOTH of u should be on the insurance as named insureds. if you’re not driving the car, u dont have to be listed as a driver, but since you are part owner of the car, you DO have an insurable interest in the car. in other words, if the car is totalled, right now the check will only go to your mom & the bank, not you.
second, even though your mom would be the driver, if the claim exceeds the limit of liability she carries, yes, you can be sued f/ the remainder as it is your car too. maybe it’s not fair but YOU are responsible f/ anything you own and/or co-own, no matter what the situation is.
therefore, you need to be put on the insurance and then u can make decisions about what limits of liability are on the car. keeping in mind that you not only need to protect your mother’s assets but yours as well, b/c an attorny will go after anything and everything that he legally can.
