what does credit councelling do to my credit?

I don’t really want to do credit councelling but at this point it may seem like my only choice. What does this do to my credit and how does it work. Do they make all decisions on how to allocate the money or do I have a say in it. I currently have a few financial obligations such as child support, insurance, car loan and so on. Will this deem my credit cards all closed?? I currently have a future shop credit card that i definately want to keep since I have recent purchases on it and I don’t want them to think I am mtrying to scam them. If you can direct me to a website that can help i would greatly appreciate it.

Do not do credit counseling under any circumstances. Their standard procedure is to have you stop paying all your bills for the next several months, and deposit all your money into a savings account instead. This will trash your credit! They then take a percentage of your savings as a fee ( a BIG percentage) and start offering to pay credit card companies a portion of what you owe to mark your debt settled. The card companies do not have to accept, and can sue you for this.
