Is it illegal to race cars in your own field without safety equipment and charge people to take part?

I know it’s a silly question, but it’s a roundabout way of asking whether all the safety equipment etc. involved in Autograss racing is a legal requirement, or just an insurance one. UK Question

considering all the somewhat ridiculous health and safety rules in the UK at present, Id say its legally required.
Its also, I would have thought, a lot more benificial to the crowds of people who attend, and the lots that take part, to know that the ‘organisers’ are doing such a wonderful job to ensure the safety of every attendee, regardless of the amount of financial gain received
